2023 International Women’s Day 8th March is observed as the International Women’s Day. The Book of Proverbs in the Bible chapter 31:10-31 has many sayings on woman. It describes the qualities and the role of a woman. The following verses I liked the most. “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.” (31:30-31).
A woman plays different roles in our life. For example, as a mother, grandmother, godmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, daughter, granddaughter, daughter-in-law, niece, cousin, life partner (wife), business partner, leader, singer, dancer, actor, artist, friend, maid, teacher, preacher, classmate, doctor, nurse, patient, advocate, counsellor, client, neighbour, manager, seller, buyer, employer, employee, colleague, relative, parishioner, acquaintance, beautician, musician, sports woman, captain, coordinator, supporter, protector, sympathizer, empathizer, opponent, and so on. In all these roles a woman contributes to the growth of our personality through her hard labour and consistent selfless dedication and service. Her contribution is precious and beyond any price or words. May God bless and protect all women. On our part let us accept and respect women as our fellow travellers and pilgrims on our journey on this planet. Let us show our gratitude and appreciation towards them not merely in words but through our exemplary concrete actions. Happy Women’s Day. Pratapananda Naik,SJ 8th March 2023
