Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant should think and speak sensibly. His latest prescription asking people and tourists to park their vehicles outside the city before venturing into Panaji is preposterous to say the least. Will the Chief Minister himself set an example by walking into the city leaving his vehicle and the accompanying convoy?
Will the Chief Minister please try to be more sensitive especially when he brags about his ‘Prashasan Tumchya Dari’ (Governance at your doorstep)? The best interests of the people should weigh uppermost in his mind at all times, especially now when good governance and the rule of law has sunk to an all-time low. He would do well to imbibe the values and humane way Goa’s first Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar reached out to the poorest of the poor. He was always people friendly and so very informal while being accessible to one and all. He is still fondly remembered and respected for that humbleness. On the current mess and chaos that Panaji is enveloped in, instead of acting against those politicians and officials involved for dereliction of duty, the Chief Minister is trying to give us unsolicited suggestions that are so weird. It is akin to carrying out a faulty diagnosis, then prescribing an ayurvedic concoction to treat a different ailment rather than a cure for what the patient is suffering from. Yet again a ‘Do as I say NOT as I do’ CM who has run out of ideas on how to tackle the urgent issues plaguing Goa rushes to make rash statements without thinking twice about their implication or effectiveness. These two age old proverbs may help the CM avoid such pitfalls in the future. ‘Think or look before you leap’ and ‘Always remember to put your brain in gear before engaging the mouth’. Adv.
