Panaji Mayor Rohit Monserrate has in vain tried to wriggle out of the utter chaos that Panaji is currently embroiled in by stating that he is just a member on the board of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) and that all the decisions are taken by the Chief Secretary.
The Mayor along with his MLA dad are Directors on IPSCDL and it is a collective responsibility for all that goes right or wrong. Hadn’t his MLA dad recently publicly blurted that nobody is inconvenienced by the Smart City works and that just a few voices were making noise. Wasn’t it the duty of the MLA and the Mayor to raise the issues of the mess in Panaji? Their silence while Panaji is suffering has been deafening. They are responsible for the current state of our City with the worse yet to come. Nothing much was ever expected from the Mayor who has been put on that saddle by his father for obvious reasons. Nepotism rules! Merit and aptitude was not a criteria while the MLA foisted his incapable son who continues to be an apprentice Mayor. Less said the better about the rampant corruption and nepotism at the CCP. Babush Monserrate has always opposed an IAS officer being posted there as he wouldn’t be able to manipulate the affairs. While in the Opposition, Babush Monserrate had accused the IPSCDL of being a big den of rampant corruption. Ironically Babush Monserrate and his Mayor son as Directors are virtually manipulating its functioning. There needs to be a probe into those crores being deviously funneled into the political pockets under the guise of making Panaji a Smart City. Adv.
