Dear Mr. Wilson,

At the outset let me say that neither do I know Mr. Sequeira personally nor am a supporter of any politician/party in this state. But going through your mail, I am tempted to ask, how do you define a Goan? Better still, why are you so intent on pressing for a Roman script? Do you think its going to solve any of the ills in the state? I am a goan myself. But I have always learnt that it is much better to have a national identity. That of being an Indian, and I take great pride in that.

I had a goan come up to me to sign some document pressing for official status to the roman script. This same person could not speak Konkani fluently, forget about reading/writing in Roman script. But to make up the numbers, signatures are being solicited. Great going! Keep it up. It is not enough that we goans refuse to accept responsibility for our lethargic attitude. We can only be interested in raking up needless issues and taking to the streets for flimsy reasons. Can your same group press for more compeeling demands like proper roads, water, electricity, healthcare and education? NO.

You say you have the regional parties and your "SAVE GOA". Whom are you fooling? Please introspect and look at the credentials of the people whose help you are seeking. Defectors, manipulators, scoundrels to the core. And you justify seeking their help so that Konkani has a Roman script? The day is not far when true Goans get frustrated and leave the state. Who do you envisage remaining to speak your Konkani? I was shocked when I saw some of you tiatrists whip up such a frenzy during your support to Save goa during elections. It is at that point that I realized that this state is finished. Forget politicians, the masses are so easily swayed. There is no politician today worth being elected to the Legislative assembly. If you have a conscience, reconsider whom you support. And also consider the implications of your demands. Script, language, class, caste, religion etc, all these are tactics that serve to only to provide opportunities for 3rd parties to divide society even further. Let us get down to improving the lot of our people wiothout focussing on these trivial issues. I have seen how much of documentation actually takes place in Konkani. Please do not be offended. But if we don't change, we will continue to elect politicians of this calibre who will rise on account of these issues. And as a tax paying citizen of this country, I take objection.

Press Note, For Kind favor of publication

            Alexio Sequeira is anti-Roman Script

The views, expressed by Mr Alexio Sequeira ( Hon. Minister), on the issue
of the "Roman Script", in certain sections of the Press, on the 20th July
2007 , are nauseating.
