*Goa Police — Goons Before Goans, Cowards Before Criminals!* By Johnson D'Silva Advocate for Public Accountability
The horrifying custodial assault of Edberg Pereira at Margao Police Station once again exposes the rotten core of Goa’s policing system — a force that behaves like *goons before innocent, soft-spoken Goans, but bends like cowards before hardened criminals, rapists, and foreign lawbreakers.* Today, a Goan youth lies battling for his life on a ventilator — beaten, tortured, and humiliated in custody by those sworn to protect him. Instead of ensuring justice, SP (South Goa) Tikam Singh, IPS, appears more concerned about shielding the accused PSI and spinning false stories that Pereira “fell and injured himself.” Such lies insult the intelligence of every Goan and erode public trust in law enforcement. Goans have seen this shameless hypocrisy time and again. *When Nigerians created chaos and blocked the highway in Porvorim, the same police stood helpless — frozen, spineless, and unwilling to act.* When rapists, drug peddlers, and the assaulters of social worker Rama Kankonkar were caught, they were given VIP treatment inside police stations — no handcuffs, no rough handling, no humiliation. Some were even seen smiling in photographs with officers, as if crime had become a privilege and justice a joke. But when it comes to ordinary Goans, the same police suddenly remember their power. They beat, threaten, and torture — showing their “bravery” only against the weak and voiceless. This selective enforcement of law is not policing — it’s organized oppression. Under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 — Sections 117 (grievous hurt), 125 (torture by public servant), 226 (fabricating evidence), and 228 (destruction of evidence) — every officer involved in the assault or cover-up must be booked and prosecuted. Shielding a criminal in uniform is itself a crime. If CCTV footage from the Margao Police Station is tampered with or erased, SP Tikam Singh must be held personally responsible and suspended immediately. *The people of Goa are peace-loving, not weak.* They may be patient, but their patience is not infinite. Goans will no longer tolerate a police force that acts like private muscle for the powerful while trampling on the rights of the common man. Justice for Edberg Pereira is justice for every Goan who refuses to live in fear of the khaki uniform. Goa demands accountability — not apologies, not cover-ups, but criminal action against those who have turned the police force into a tool of terror.
