Recently, we learnt the da Rocha family was Kamats in Aldona. The earliest
convert was Anant Kamat, who was one of twelveGaunkars present during the
meeting held in 1595, who donated 125 gold coins onbehalf of the village
Vangods-Gaunkarsfor the construction of St. Thomas Church.  The suggestion of
the donation onbehalf of all the Bamon Vangods-Gaunkars of Aldona for the
construction of the village church does not sound as if they were persecuted
and converted.
Any insights into these events and more details would be most appreciated.
Thanks in anticipationRegards, GL
