Literati Bookshop and Café invites you to a special evening with renowned
textile scholar Frank Ames, celebrating the publication of his landmark new
book, PASHMINA JEWELS. This important work completes a remarkable trilogy
representing Ames’s lifelong exploration of the history, design, and
symbolism of the Kashmir shawl across three centuries. His earlier books —
The Kashmir Shawl and Its Indo-French Influence (1997) and Woven
Masterpieces of Sikh Influence (2010) — are widely regarded as essential
references for collectors, museums, and cultural institutions worldwide.
Join us for a fascinating talk exploring the artistic brilliance, cultural
heritage, and historical journey of one of the world’s most celebrated
textiles. Following the talk, enjoy a special show-and-tell session —
guests are warmly invited to bring old or rare Indian shawls or fabrics for
discussion.
