As far as I know, the Portuguese never tried to persuade the Goans that they
were not Indians "geographically and ethnically", so much so that they
called the conglomerate of their possessions in the subcontinent (Goa,
Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar-Haveli) "Estado da INDIA" and very often
referred to it as "A INDIA", "A Nossa INDIA", "INDIA Portuguesa", etc.
