Outsider for CM? Tiatrists with Foresight!
Yes Domnic, well written...also remember M Boyer's -- GOLDEN GOA...
guess that album was released in the 80s...M Boyer although severely critised
for promoting the koankanni cause and titling his album Golden Goa in english,
did have the opening song GOA in which he forewarned about the disastrous fall
out of the incessant mining carried out in Goa.
But till date mining pollution is at its best in Goa and the current CM
Digamber Kamat, who is traditionally close to and funded by mining giants like
Timblos in Margao and others will not say a word about the hazards of pollution
arising out of mining.
M Boyer, then also spoke of outsiders comming in Goa in large numbers and
opening businesses and goans being mere spectators to them. How true was his
foresight!
Also famous cantorist...William Menezes aka William de Curtorim from Curtorim
in Salcette does a bold take on politicians and somehow has some scoop in every
of his albums.
Bet tiatrists have always since the time of the Portuguese were instrumental in
exposing the misdeeds of the politicians. My father used to always inform us
about tiatrists who used to criticize Salazar at Margao's Gomantak Vidhya
Niketan located just opposite the pracca and the Margao Town Police Station,
and then get arrested for their bold approach, in those days when Goa was not
practicing democracy.
The rate at which Goan politics is racing towards being controlled from across
the border by High Commands and their croonies, looks like the day is not very
far when Goa might have a non-Goan CM.
