LONDON BRIDGE
There were several London Bridges in the history of The River Thames in
London. An American company thought they would purchase the London Bridge &
bought it. They had it dismantled piece by piece, stone by stone & numbered it
carefully to have to re-assembled in the USA.
Horrified by the result after it was assembled they asked why they were
fobbed off with an unattractive, dull bridge instead of the London Bridge.
The Government replied that they had indeed been sold the London Bridge &
could not understand why the fuss was being made.
It all came to light when the Americans produced a photograph of "London
Bridge" as they saw it, but in fact it was TOWER BRIDGE which they had assumed
they bought, it seems in their excitement of purchasing this "London Bridge"
they did not take the full tour of the bridges over The River Thames, of which
there are several! A dozen in London alone, then more of them as the river
splits in various ways up to Berkshire and beyond!
The sad thing is that the Americans crave history & ancestry, eventually did
not get what they wanted, they think their money can buy anything, but this
time they were sold a "pig in a pok" but when they thought they had the London
Bridge in fact re-built / re-assembled it at Lake Havasu, in Arizona of all
places! Obviously a group of businessmen got together to put a tourist
attraction together to get more people to visit their particular part of the
States, but got a knock on the nose instead.
What on earth did they think they were doing? You cannot invent History & by
taking someone else's History & placing it in your back yard does not make it
so.
Money speaks all languages it is said, but this time some went dumb!
