Xavierites at Laddkecho Gosgoso
The NSS Unit of St. Xavier's College, organized a hike to the
picturesque Chorla Ghat at the Goa-Karnataka border recently under
the leadership of NSS Program Officer, Mr. Pradeep Morajkar, with the
participation of 91 N.S.S. volunteers and four other faculty members.
The first stop was at the Anjunem Check Dam where one could see the
magnificient Anjunnem Dam from a close range. From here the two
buses moved towards Laddkecho Ghosgoso, an experience of a lifetime
around the serene beauty of the Western Ghats, as the buses had to go
past one pothole after another.
After reaching the bas of the hill at 11:30 a.m., the hike towards
the top began. Once on top the enthusiasm of the students reached
its zenith. The lifeline of Goa the Mhadei River, can be seen
gushing into Goa from this point. Nature activist, Mr. Pankaj Laad
who is Part-Ii student of M.Sc. Geology, Goa University, introduced
the participants to the unique and rare flora and fauna and history
of the terrain. He urged them to save Goa's serene environment and
requested the participants to educate fellow Goans about the urgent
need to save our beautiful Mhadei, the life-line of Goa.
After reaching the base of the hill, the participants stopped for
lunch at a beautiful fresh water spring in Karnataka. After lunch,
the participants played some games near the spring.
On the way back, there was a half at a fresh water fall where
everybody enjoyed the gushing waters that can be experienced only
during the monsoons.
