"She is sleeping." I was told when my probing camera entered the house of
Devki Katu Velip. She was refering to six month baby that survived Fomentos
mining blasts few months ago in her village of Colamb in Goa's Sanguem
Taluka. Devki's house however is badly damaged. It may crumble down anytime.
Mining company Fomentos wants them to get out. Devki and her 27 member joint
family is leaving in her Colamb residence for generations together. Fomentos
have been using explosives to blow up the top soil in bid to reach to the
minerals underneath at a rapid pace. For they are in the race for
internationaltional market. Devki Katu Velip and her protests to the company
and to the State administration have fallen on the deaf ears so far. They
are facing consistent threats to their right to life and State has failed to
protect them. Here are few pictures from Devki Katu Velips' residence in
Colamb in Sanguem.

Here is baby that lies asleep in the cracked house. The roof of this house
may give way any time. Here is a baby:

Devki's house is not the only one to be exploded in mining blasts, Devdita
Antao has the similar story to narrate. Their house in Colamb too is cracked
with explosions in the nearby mines. here is the picture of Devdita Antao
and her daughter Macline at their house in Colamb, Sanguem:

Mining in Sanguem apart from causing loss of wildlife habitat is also
responsible for allround destruction of human habitat. Mining has to stop in
Goa forever. People here already paid too dearly with their precious lands
and now the industry is asking for their lives. time has come to say 'enough
is enough'.
