The word Missionary is not understood by people. They think missionary is a
priest who wears black cassock sports a beard and has a big cross round his
neck and goes to the corners of africa or south america for whose benefits
we collect money on mission sunday. For me missionary as a priest is the one
or group of missionaries who are allotted an area of work in Goa where he is
from to work for the uplftment of people. His work is to console broken
hearts, join broken families, counsel people who are confused and spread the
gospel. He cannot do this alone and needs help. The clergy cannot have one
hundred percent scholars in every field but their pride detest them from
using the help of lay people.So the missionaries are sent out of Goa and we
are not aware of their activities and believe all they have to tell us while
our goans run here and there for they are eager to listen to the word of God
for which there is starvation in the state. The clergy cannot give them
adequate word of the gospel except little "koko meme " at the sunday mass
and for this reason people are forced to go to Potta and else where. Many of
them listen to TV channel which many times the clergy advice people not to
pay attention to tv programme.
The second version of missionaries is that we are all missionaries. We are
sent into this world on a mission. Teachers, doctors, nurses, housewives,
etc etc are all missionaries for whom money is not collected on Mission
sunday. If we carry on our mission as per God's wishes we will really take
human beings to God. But are we doing this ? No .Many mothers neglect their
children by leaving them in the hands of ayas. Many fathers abuse their
children by coming home drunk. Doctors treat their patients as per the
income they ought to get and not by the diseases. Lawyers know how to set
the law accordingly. Govt servants are not serving the people but
themselves. etc etc and so the word of God is not spreading instead
frustration, sadness, fear, etc are born within us. The word of God is based
only on -Love God with your whole heart soul and self and love one another
as Jesus has loved us. Jesus said --be my disciples.Amen
