I was six, but the shopping instructions from ma were firm: if it's Yazdi,
accept the Japanese, if its the Ismaili, dont, ask for the English colouring

I cannot but sigh over the many ironies, more so after the Guha article. We

India now expects every Indian to 'do his duty' ; bank a hundred thousand in
the West, to stop the rupee's appreciation. When i left in '73, one could
exchange just eight dollars on departure.
I dont think the roof is about to cave in on the new world order, inspite of
what our friend who has all the figures, has to say. Lyndon Johnson did not
have us pay for fifty million tons of wheat in 1965, and we can be as
accomodating today. If all else fails, we can always invite the US and Canada
