I stay in Alto Betim and I use the ferry to go to Panaji since 1990.
I always wear my helmet and see so many others do so, too.
Why should law abiding citizens suffer prejudiced sweeping generalisations?
The suggestion that two wheelers be banned from entering the ferry is as
highly patronising as some people insisting that pedestrians should be banned
for not following basic civic discipline.
The solution is very simple:
At least three ferries (two, otherwise) have to be comissioned in peak hours.
If people have a option of boarding the next ferry within 10 minutes (instead
of minimum 30 minutes, NOW) many are likely to WAIT for the next ferry instead
of crowding and endangering one's life.
Use the gate system to monitor the flow of pedestrians and vehicles. (It was
done earlier with a greater flow of vehicles, why not now?)
All of us need to ensure that we follow civic manners ourselves, whether in a
ferry boat or a bridge (most drivers break speed limit) or the market
(jostling), or the theatre (people jumping the line) or a buffet (heaping the
plate) or e-mails (mechanical forwarding) or ...
