7 year old Gauri Hadkonkar beat Asian and World Under -8 Champion Ivana
Furtado in the All Goa Primary Schools Chess Tournament organised by
Taleigaon Chess Academy at International Center in Dona Paula. Does this
mean that the standard of chess in Goa is higher than that of the world!?
Gauri incidentally also studies in Our Lady of Rosary School Dona
Paula.Personally I'm not surprised at her win - she beat me when I met her
in this year's State Senior Championship.
In a way I think its a good result for both of them - for Ivana because
serious chess players learn more from their losses than their wins; and also
because she occasionally needs a reminder that she's human - or else she'll
start becoming complacent.And for Gauri - it'll do her confidence a world of
good - now we have two predators in the under-8 age group. India, Asia and
the World - Beware
