Dear Selma,
I really appreciate your views on Goans in the Gulf. I guess many a people from
Goa and the world over understand that life for average Goans in the Gulf is
not a cake walk. I have family and friends in various parts of the world
specially UK who constantly brag about taxes, well although we in the Gulf get
paid a tax-free salary, the cost of living has risen steeply and so also the
appartment rents, telephone bills etc.
I was extremely touched by the analysis you did on Goans in the Gulf in your
reply to some other poster. And they are so true of the life today in the Gulf.
Most Goans are struggling, and not to mention people like the keralities are
making it extremely for Goans, and to think of it these people enjoy vvip
treatment when they come to Goa and also occupy top positions in government
offices, thanks to the policy of selling out jobs to the highest bidder by our
politicians.
Being in the Gulf for long years and being involved within the Goan community,
i understand the frustrations of many young chaps who leave their families back
home and struggle to make both ends meet. Many of them feel so cheated by the
agents and companies they work for that they always state that if Goa and its
government actually thought of them, they would not be in this desert, fighting
the politics and braving the weather, when the bhailes are enjoying the
bounties of beautiful Goa!
