14 undertrials escape from Margao lockup

Panaji: Fourteen undertrials escaped from a Margao judicial lockup,
taking advantage of an open gate during a Ganesh Chaturthi function,
police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when the undertrials were
brought to the main lobby to participate in the Ganesh Chaturthi
prayers, they said.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, 14 of the 60 undertrials lodged in
the lock-up fled.
Police said of the 14 undertrials, three had been charged with murder,
two with robbery, one with dacoity and others with petty crimes.
Police were combing the entire South Goa district and the borders had
been sealed to nab the undertrials.
