Goa fin min lays foundation of Rs 22.64 cr
hydrology project
Panaji, Sep 17 : Finance Minister Dayanand
Narvekar today laid the foundation stone for the World Bank funded Rs 22.64
crore hydrology project phase-II at Penade Fanca Porvorim in North
Goa.
The project, envisaging
construction of a data centre and a laboratory, will house 22 river gauged
stations, 145 ground water level monitoring stations and 8 climatic stations
for studying the hydrograhic profile of the state.
''It will help improve and strengthen institutions and technical capability of
water resources department to measure, collect, analyse, disseminate and use
quantitative and qualitative data on surface and ground water for evolving
reliable information system to promote water resources planning in the state,''
according to authorities.
The phase-II of Rs 96 crore hydrology project will facilitate monitoring
hydrometeorological data to be authenticated by the Central Water Commission,
Indian Meterological Department and the Central Ground Water Board. The
facility records water run-offs at different basins including Mahadei in Goa.
