You sound a very sensible person, indeed well adjusted & at your age, have all
you need in terms of monetary & spiritual need, you now you have the time &
also the determination to succeed in anything that you do.

It is indeed fortunate you have a plan for the betterment of Goa, without any
political ambitions, and certainly not wanting money or fame for what is your
sacrifice toward others in your country.

This is very noble of you and I wish you well in your ambition to do good for
everyone, gaining nothing in return.

You have sidelined a quite a few people who make up Goanet forum by pushing
aside those who have been contributing much over the years, forgive me but I am
just a new guy on the block as it were, but I can see you will not receive the
support of those you have just pushed to one side to get near front of the
queue.

I hope & pray that you find a better way to get to the top because you will
the support of the majority to do anything in this world, let alone Goa where
unfortunately differing forms of corruption is obvious at many levels, not only
in parts of the local goverment but also in day to day dealings within politics
where the MAJORITY of voters ARE interested in their daily bread coming to
them, no matter how its gained.

Your first point that you have NIL political ambitions has put you at the
back of the queue already! You have to show you have affilitations to one or
other party, maybe take in a coalition or similar.

Goans are no different to the rest of the human race, everyone of Goan or
other neighbouring State(s) origins look to WHO will give them the best deal
(and there begins the corruption within & without........ its too detailed to
go into but I am sure you understand).

My way would be to fight the corruption from within & if you succeed you will
be hailed as God-given to humanity.

In all its ills, politics is dirty only because we are all too afraid to
confront it. Just look at Zimbabwe & their political leaders, it makes Goan
politics look pure & innocent. But that is because they have accepted ONE
person as their leader & her surrounded himself with a party HE runs with an
iron fist.

Dictatorships are on the way out but it will take a long time before it is
totally eradicated, one-man parties & leaders who profess to do good ALWAYS
fall by the wayside, taking most of the country with them.

You sound a sensible man with many good qualities, certainly not in it for
money or fame as I said earlier but you will find that religion also has much
to do with whether you succeed or not, if you believe in God as you say you do,
you have to declare which God you believe in, the Muslim God or Catholic God,
Hindu God or maybe you worship another God, but you say you believe in God, yet
you say you dont mind others who are believers in a particular God, also the
fanatics .......... are welcome.

Sorry but you need to put ALL your affiliations on the desk so that the
VOTERS can decide WHO you are, WHY you are as you are but above all WHAT is it
that you want? No-one will take you at face value, you need to be PROVEN first
and this takes time. You are still young therefore you may well do good in
other ways, but politically you will not get passed those you pushed aside
twice. Once bitten, twice shy is the saying and its true in all forms!

If you do not intend to hold any political post, then HOW will you go forward
with the rest of your plan. The only other way to get Goa back on its feet is
by industry, big industry. A large company that will do good such as a
benefactor, but that is Charity!

Goa does not need Charity, it need its charisma back & serious minded
politicians who WILL do better, its up to the voters to decide that & the
Indian Government who will step in to ensure no corruption at the polling
station & certainly no threats of violence from one team to another, and visa
versa.

The problem is world-wide when you MIX the two biggies, politics & religion.
Some affiliations between the two go "hand-in-hand" such as the extreme parties
but such is politics. It's the majority of the population that needs
convincing but when the largest percentage is also extreme in its views, you
have a long fight on your hands.

Good luck but remember that if you have no more vision of Goa other than
giving it a helping hand, you WILL have a queue of people letting you get to
the front of the queue but in return you will have to pay the price, charity or
not, it will be expensive. I hope you have deep pockets, or maybe time for
Plan B?

  Best Wishes
  John Monteiro

Dear Goans,
I am grateful to Mario Rodrigues for taking the time and effort to reply to
my initial mail.I would be obliged if more of you send in your constructive
criticism and/or suggestions.I need to know how many of you agree/disagree
with my core ideas outlined in the original mail.
As far as the methods to achieve the objective of making Goa a model state
are concerned,I have a clear plan/plans and they do not necessarily involve
forming a new political party ( as Mario assumed ) or for that matter none
of us need to get directly involved in politics.I shall reveal details of my
strategy as we go along ( and depending on how much response I get from
Goanet readers.......my concern is that Goa Net is a very valuable forum
which is deteriorating into a platform for voicing differences in personal
beliefs, religious and ideological leanings, political stances and worst of
all conflicts between individuals on a 1 to 1 basis.....when we could
potentially use it to address the central issue----WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE
OUR MOTHERLAND OF GOA ---before it is too late.
Meanwhile,a few details about myself :
1)I am a highly political conscious individual BUT with nil political
ambitions ( i.e. I understand the politics and the social scenario in Goa
pretty well but will never get drawn into entering politics in terms of
holding an official post however remotely connected to Goan administration )
2)I am in my early 40's, a first generation immigrant living in a western
country ,well settled in terms of my personal and professional life. I have
however spent the first half of my life in Goa and owe whatever I am today
to this gem of a land and SHALL NOT let it be raped and plundered.
3)I am a believer in God but not in any particular religion ( on the other
hand I respect and understand those of us who are affiliated to any
particular faith or religion...even fanatically so )
4)I have no specific political affiliation ( but once again respect those
who do )
5)I am open minded (to the extreme) to all suggestions and
criticisms......all I want is for those of you whose core personal agenda is
the betterment of Goa to help me .
6)Above all,i am an extremely determined person ( which makes up for the
fact that i am not highly intelligent or affluent or influential like many
others who have attempted a similar exercise in terms of the Goan dream )
At the risk of sounding "cliched"....I dream with my eyes open.
PLEASE respond to me on Goa Net...or if necessary in confidence to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Luv and regards,
Arjun Eklawya Sadiq-Saldanha
