Dears,

The children of Goa, from age 7 years and above, presented a myriad of
voices singing in Portugese ... from Fado to modern Pop songs and from
compositions originally sung by Amalia Rodrigues to Remo Fernandes .... at
the Dinanath Mangueshkar auditorium of the Kala Academy, Panaji-Goa.

While the Principal of Rosary College- Navelim, Fr. Walter D'Sa,delivered
his welcome speech in impeccable Portuguese Prof. Paulo Varela Gomes, the
new Delegado of Fundacao Oriente in Panaji, spoke in fluent English. They
made their point, both in their words and choice of language!

Roanne Eden Cortez , aged 9 years, of Panaji set the tone with a wonderful
rendition of "Sobe, Sobe.Balao Sobe." She was followed by Tahira Ismalia
Menezes, aged 11 years, of Vidya Vikas Academy-Margao with "Cancao do Mar"
which was louder than the crashing waves during monsoons, perhaps because of
a fault in the adjustment of the sound system. It was the 11 year old
Reiniel Costa Martins from Aquem-Margao who strummed his own guitar and
stole the hearts of the audience with the song "Aos Menos Uma Vez"

The jury consisted of the Ambassador of Portugal to India, H.E. Luis Filipe
Castro Mendes; Lecturer in Portuguese at Goa University Mari do Ceu Barreto
and Director-owner of "Communicare" and "A Nau", Nalini de Elvino Sousa, of
Aldona but resident in Portugal till her marriage with Dr.Bossuet Afonso.

Musical accompaniment was provided by Kevin Mendes [ex-Strangers, Cream and
India, now with Cascades] and Orlando de Noronha, as was done last year
also.

Britto Boy Joachim Piedade Souza [ son of Adv. Jose of Nachinola] strummed
his guitar and regaled the audience with "Cartas de Amor" [Love letters]
while Fhelen Debbie da Costa of Colva did likewise with "Cad Lugar Teu" soon
thereafter. Ian de Noronha of Caranzalem gave his rendition of Remo's "Fado
Goa"

Contemporary Pop song "Eu Vou Cantar" [I will sing] by Portuguese group "Non
Stop" was rendered by a group of three girls and two boys, aptly calling
themselves "Os Cinco" {The Five}, from St.Xavier's College , Mapusa, ended
the singing programme with a bang!

Look out for the official report from the organisers in a day or two.

Mog asundi.

Miguel
