Health services in Goa affected due to strike

Panaji, Oct. 6 (PTI): Health services were
partially affected in Goa's government-run
hospitals as class IV staff went on a one-day strike on Friday, pressing for
their demands of wages and allowances.

Thousands of workers of Goa Medical
 College and Hospital, and
two district hospitals -- Asilo (north) and Hospicio (south) -- went on strike.

The striking workers are affiliated to the
Gomantak Mazdoor Sangh.

"There was not much impact of the strike as
it was only for a day. We kept alternate arrangements in place to cater to the
emergency," Dr Rajan Cuncolienkar, medical superintendent, Goa Medical College
and Hospital said Friday evening.

Class-four employees usually help nurses in
different wards besides sweeping, carry patients to referral points, transport
blood samples and are involved in other works.
