Hi Albert
The answer to your question is simple. I have a strong tendency to align
myself with the disadvantaged underdog in any situation. The kunbis (sometimes
spelt differently) have been historically, among the silent or 'invisible'
lowly minority people of Goa, and until relatively recently, generally provided
hard agricultural labour for a pittance to the landed gentry who invariably
espoused the humbug of caste among the population of Goa. Moreover, the kunbi
is an aboriginal or original person from Goa i.e. the real salt of the earth
and somewhat like the proletariat. As my ego is not on the line, but I have the
kudos and necessary arrogance to do so when appropriate, I am most proud to
take on this ancestral kunbi identity even though I have lived almost all my
life outside Goa. Indeed, I suggest that, if we all identified with the kunbi,
we would have more credibility in calling ourselves true Goans and I hope that,
our normally unthinking casteists will particularly note
this point. I do hope this little explanation is helpful but I'd be happy to
answer further questions from you.

However, I note that you did not reply to my earlier question to you asking
how as a devout Catholic, you reconcile the prevalence of casteism and
casteists among so called Catholic Goans? Please may I have a response from you
on this specific point?
  Regards
Cornel DaCosta, Kunbi Vaddo, London, UK.

Hi Frederick
Please, when possible, will you keep us informed about people passing
through Goa? I have just read Alberto's piece and would have loved to meet him
as I too identify with the Kunbi.

  Dear Cornel
Could you be kind enough to explain the above posting to me ? I would like to
know why the word kunbi is used in your text.
