The biography of the living legend of tiatr, M. Boyer, researched and
written by Michael Gracias, was released at the 77th birthday
celebrations of Mauel Santan Aguiar aka M. Boyer at an impressive
function at Kala Academy, Panaji-Goa, today.
M. Boyer is the only Goan artiste to be so far honoured with an award
of the Sangeet Natak Academy of India. He received this honour in 1994
at the hands of the then President of India Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma.
In 2005, Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, presented the Padmashri award to
M.Boyer.
M. Boyer has received a number of awards since 1967. The big ones
include the Kala Academy Award on the Centenary Celebrations of Tiatr
in 1992 and Goa Konkani Akadem Award in 1993 that preceded the Sangit
Natak Academy Award as well as the Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Sangeet
Sammelan Award in 2002 and Dalgado Konkani Akademi award in 2004 that
preceded the Padmashri in 2005 and finally the Goa State Rewards in
2007. The prophet is now recognised and honoured in his home town.
The book is a steal at Rs.125/-. It is well researched and documented,
has photos of M.Boyer over a large part of his adult life and even the
script of some of his tiatr and lyrics of his songs or "Kantaram".
