Theres no question of BJP smuggling me: Mesquita
BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, OCT 19 In a tit-for-tat, BJP Candidate Dr Wilfred Mesquita has pooh-poohed allegations by his rival candidate that he was smuggled from the Save Goa Front before being fielded as a candidate by the BJP. Theres no question of the BJP smuggling me. I was born and brought up in Goa. Smuggling means bringing illegally from outside. And, I cannot be smuggled from Rome, Colombia or South America, he asserted, while speaking at his election office inauguration here this evening. Mesquita also attacked his Congress rival for supporting big mine quarry owners in Curtorim constituency and not giving due representation to the STs in the State. If you cannot work in Curtorim, what you would do for Goa and India, he asked. Referring to Sardinhas comments that he would ensure that Goa receive good quality rice and wheat from the Centre, Mesquita demanded the resignation of Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik for failing to get quality rice and wheat. He said the message from BJP campaign is simple: That the army (people) is ready to capture Aurangzeb (Congressmen) in a few days time. Mesquita said the BJP put a brake on the loot and plunder of Goa by the Congress government and save Goa. He wondered why Goans are not joining in carrying forward the burning issues taken up by the BJP. Elections will come and go, but what about Goa. Our fate would be like East Indians in Mumbai. In his address, Leader of the Opposition, Manohar Parrikar lambasted the Digambar Kamat government saying theres no single decision of the government which has been executed till date. We have only heard about announcements, he said, adding Kamat has proved his is a dummy Chief Minister. He expressed confidence that Dr Mesquita is capable enough to fight the cancer of corruption plaguing the State. BJP President, Shripad Naik wondered how the MGP and Save Goa Front leader Churchill Alemao can think of supporting the Congress when these two parties had fought against the party in the June 2 polls. This only shows the sorry state of politics in Goa, he added. http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=3074&cid=26 Sanny de Quepem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
