CM assures all support to Vauraddeancho Ixtt
NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Oct 20 To commemorate the platinum jubilee of the Konkani weekly, `Vauraddeancho Ixtt, a cultural programme was held today evening at Raimundo and Lidia Gracias hall, Agnel Ashram, Verna. At the onset, the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat lit the traditional lamp and thereafter released a special commemorative souvenir of `V Ixtt. The Power Minister, Mr Aleixo Sequeira and MLA of St Andre constituency, Mr Francisco Silveira were also present for the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kamat paid homage to all those who worked hard to start the Konkani weekly and all those who have toiled for its existence till date. ``It is a matter of pride to note that the weekly reaches around 10,000 homes today, he added. Mr Kamat also mentioned about the governments policy which focuses on the development of regional languages. He recalled that during his tenure as the art and culture minister, he had introduced various schemes for the growth and development of various art forms such as the mandos and folk dances. The Chief Minister also assured all support to the Konkani weekly for its future growth. Dr Bicaji Ganekar, who was the chief speaker for the day, briefed the gathering about the history and growth of `V Ixtt. He brought to the notice of the audience about the issues dealt with by the Konkani weekly during the past couple of years. Earlier, the Superior of Pilar Society, Fr Tony Lopes reminded that the aim of `V Ixtt was to spread the Good News and proclaim the truth and love to the masses. ``The weekly has always strived to tackle issues of the labour class and the suppressed, he added. Fr Lopes also thanked the members of Fr Agnel Ashram for taking the initiative to prepare the venue for the platinum jubilee celebrations. The cultural programme followed which included Fados (Portuguese folk songs) by Ms Sonia Sirsat, Sitar recital by Ustad Chotte Rehman Khan, a musical one-act play, `Potrakar by Kala Mogi, Candolim and Goan folk dances by a troupe from Mandd Samelan from Canacona.
