The conference of Mae De Deus, Society of St Vincent De Paul, Saligao, has started a 'Thrift Shop',in the premises of 'Asro', Shelter for Destitute Women '.On 18 October 2007 at 4.30 pm. Assistant parish priest Father Carlisto Coelho said a prayer and blessed the new venture while Father Venancio Fonesca cut the ribbon and inaugrated the shop.Father Thomas D'Souza was also present. The proceeds of the thrift shop will go towards the fund for 'Asro '. Archbishop Henry D'Souza of Kolkata had in November 2005 donated his ancestral home in Demello Vaddo Saligao, to be used as a temporary home for women in distress and the place has been renovated and extended to comfortably house about 10 inmates at a time. The thrift shop is open every Thursday and Saturday from 4 to 6 pm. Items for sale include clothes, bags, cosmetics household items, curios etc. all of which have been donated by villagers and well-wishers. The Asro Committe of the SSVP ,put in alot of effort to sort, label and arrange the items which were well displayed and it is heartening to see the large number of people visiting the shop and buying items of their choice at bargain prices. The committee has requested more donors to come forward and keep the shop going. ENDS
