Tomazinho for Sahitya Puroskar to Roman Konkani literature
NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Oct 22 Citing injustice to the writers of Roman script Konkani, the president of the Dalgado Konkni Akademy, Mr Tomazinho Cardozo has demanded that the Sahitya Puroskar of Kala Akademy be also given to Roman Konkani literature on par with Devnagori Konkani and Marathi and that a separate panel of judges for Roman Konkani books be nominated. Mr Cardozo, who is also an executive board member of the Kala Akademy, has also demanded that an independent scheme may be prepared for Gomant Sharda Puroskar for Roman Konkani on par with Devnagori Konkani and Marathi. In a recent memorandum to the Kala Akademy chairman, Mr Pratapsing Rane, Mr Cardozo has pointed out that both the above suggestions made by him were approved by the executive board of the Kala Akademi. The first decision to have a separate Sahitya Puroskar for Roman Konkani was approved at the board meeting of April 18, 2006. The second decision to have a separate Gomant Sharda Puroskar for Roman Konkani was taken the board meeting of September 19, 2006. Mr Cardozo has reproduced the extracts of the minutes of the meetings showing that the board had indeed approved both the decisions. Despite both decisions being approved by the executive board, neither decision was implemented as Kala Akademys Advisory Board of Literature has objected to giving awards to Konkani in Roman script as a separate category. Mr Rane please note that this is a conspiracy of the Devnagori fanatics to destroy the cultural and literary creative ideas of Roman script writers and followers which form a huge section of Goan population, Mr Cardozo stated. On behalf of all the writers and protagonists of Konkani in Roman script, Mr Cardozo has requested Mr Rane to implement both decisions of the executive board. Mr Uday Bhembre and company with their manipulative skills has so far succeeded in blocking the progress of Konkani in Roman script at various levels in and outside Goa. Please do not allow Kala Akademy to be a victim of such manipulations, which will create hatred in the minds of followers of Konkani in Roman script against the Kala Akademy.
