Dear Venantius,
'Romi Lipient Konknni Kors' is essentially the same as "Konknni
Mullavo Kors" (Konkani Basic Course), published by TSKK , Porvorim,
in Deva Nagari in1991. However, there are improvements as learning is
a continuous process.
Indeed, it is a pity that the Romi version did not come out any
earlier. Fortunately, the TSKK took the risk of publishing it from its
own funds when objections were raised by the GKA to its orthography
when in manuscript form.
1991 book in Devanagri was a hang over from OLA, 1987 making only
Devanagri Official and "Unifying". Experience has shown us that the
proponents of Devanagri for Konkani send their children to Marathi or
English medium schools. You can take any example and verify ...from
GKA President Pundalik Naik to Sunaparant Editor, Sandesh Prabhudesai
or anyone else. It is only our children ..alongside Lamanis and
Bijapuris .... who have learnt Konkani in Devanagri script in
Church-managed schools [125 of the 137 private Konkani medium primary
schools are Church managed in Goa].
Almost the entire middle-class section of the society has shifted
their children to private English medium schools .... leaving 90%
non-Catholic students in DSE schools. Konkani has been reinforced as
the language of the poor and the marginalised, an effective tool to
kill it.
Ask Sardinha, Misquita, Dr.Willy, Rane, Digamber, Churchill, Parrikar
or even Archbishop Emeritus Raul Gonsalves if they can dispute these
facts?
In Adv. Uday Bhembre we trust. He trusts nobody.
Mog asundi.

the Romi way
Frederick,
Would you know whether 'Romi Lipient Konknni Kors' is essentially the
same as Konknni Mullavo Kors (Konkani Basic Course), published in Nagari in
1991? That one has 35 chapters in Section II. If it is the same, then its a
pity that the Romi version did not come out any earlier. But scholars have a
lot on their hands, and considering that such massive projects take time --
its great that the Kors is finally out there and available.
Thanks for putting out such information.
