I am not sure exactly what it is you are trying to imply. I was responding to
a post I read that said the British Society was mentally derranged. I gave my
opinion on what is happening in my area and in England as a whole, today, you
take it out of context.
There has been a murder of a Goan in the UK but some youths, aged 14 to 17
and my reaction to the person who posted on this forum was to say that there
are places, mainly big towns and cities where we have a tremendous problem with
young people who cause much damage to our society as it is today.
You are however right in calling me Joao, because that is what my birth
certificate says, it also says much more, which I will not go into but call me
JOHN please as this is how I have been known since coming back to the UK after
Independence in 1961. That's 46 years ago this December coming. You know very
little about me or how I am, nothing in fact about me but you misread my post,
select a piece and then rubbish me for the support I have given to this story.
You say I am condoning ......"the barbaric act"......... but dont go into
details of what it is you think I am condoning. I have NEVER condoned violence,
either against the person, their beliefs or against property, never! For you
to accuse me of this is sheer callousness on your part.
If you cannot illucidate or put more than a couple of mismanaged sentences
together may I suggest you either go back to school, take evening classes or
take some time to come up with something a b it more positive and tell us
EXACTLY what it is you think I am condoning. I will then respond with pleasure.
I would appreciate it (and no doubt many Goanetters here would also like to
know), how clearly & on which side you are on in regard to the matter we have
been discussing, and then come up with something a bit more constructive than
picking on two Berkshire towns with an "innit" as if to say, "this is so, isn't
it" but SAY NOTHING to support your post, other than vilify my post...........
There are HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of towns in the UK with pubs and clubs that
are over-flowing with drunken youths who cause endless property damage, damage
to themselves and others, all in the name of drink which our (British) society
accepts as the norm.
This week a Goan youth was killed. He was promanading with his friend,
minding his own business & chatting etc, then for NO REASON at all, he and his
friend was set upon by a few of these feral youths that are prowling our
streets in search of what is commonly called a "paki" (they are unable to tell
the difference between someone who is wearing a Sikh turban and a Hindu wearing
a turban or a Muslim cap or a Jewish cap, they are unable to tell much
difference in the languages or know much about anything beyond their own
"territory", they only notice "the colour of the Paki's skin..."), no different
to you I am supposing that peoples of the world ARE different, but just because
they have an opinion, they ought to be demeaned.
Are you Goan? If yes, from which hierachy do you come from? What is your
religion? Where are your parents now? Where did they come from? I could ask
you hundreds of questions which are of no constructive use to me, but I do care
if you care, about human beings & the land, the trees, the places of YOUR
childhood and the way in which you are (probably) desperately trying to make a
living, finding ways to keep friendships & relatives through much trauma which
we all experience these days.
But DO I REALLY care? Well, only my posts on this forum will supply you with
YOUR opinion of me, I will not answer my own question, I leave that to your
conscience. to decide.
This country has always had a pub or two in towns, maybe more in bigger
places, but now we are saturated with bars of all dimensions, totally ruining
the town centres and with it bring problems with some drinking "branded bars &
clubs" where under-age (under 18) people are regularly served alcohol until it
comes leaks out of every pore of thier skin!
Some die to alcohol poisoning, not to mention the problems being stored up
for liver failure later in life, if not within a few years. Its not right that
this is out of control but there are things that can be done to curtail this,
however this will NOT happen if the POLICE and the LAW MAKERS dont DO
SOMETHING, in some areas the police are picking up on the NO SMOKING POLICY
rather than prosecuting the shop-keepers who are selling cheap vodka to 15 year
olds. Of course the no-smoking policy, whatever your opinion on this, is not as
urgent as getting the MILLIONS OF LITRES of spirits and wines consumed by
under-age youths in parks, estates and common areas where other people have to
use!
Who will stop them? The police have the powers to do so. We have meetings
where action is being taken at last on these shops, they are revoking their
licenses to sell alcohol, but it will be a long time before we can stop an
over-18 year old buying alcohol for his brother or sister and their friends....
it's a vicious cycle, but its not all the British Society's fault, there are
other places that are NOT like this, but these are few and far between.
That takes too much work for our form-filling police who spend more than 30%
of each crime on paper-work, then of course if drinks are sold late into the
night, (after 11pm) then the Chancellor of the Exchequer receives millions of
pounds sterling in revenue, and the big pub companies have big lawyers &
marketing cash to ensure this trading in human flesh, for this is what it is,
continues ad infinitum.
Now then, what were you saying............ ??????
By the way, I have also never ".....almost condoned......" anything either, I
say as I see it, its either a YES or NO, very seldom a "maybe" unless its my
family after my finances or want a luxury occasionally, or my staff if their
work hours are not long enough, then I will THINK about it, this "maybe" is not
the same as ALMOST........in these type of cases, a man was murdered for God's
sake, how can you just sit there & be so damn callous?

Thanks Joao Monteiro,
You are almost condoning the barbaric act. I think Wokingham is quiet in nit?
Try visiting the Red Bull in Bracknell (don't blame me if anything happens!)

have had occasions when I felt threatened in a society that promotes good will
to all men. Yes, the British Society as it has been described is made up of
many races, faiths & ethnic backgrounds. Without these, "The British Society"
would not exist as it does today. This is not to say it would be any different
if the inflow of migrants were any different, just that there are issues also
within the migrants' areas too, be they Polish, Gujrati, Somalia!
