India-Lebanon
match shifted to Goa on Tuesday

Panaji/Margao, Oct 28 The India-Lebanon World Cup 2010 qualifying
football match has been shifted to Nehru stadium, Fatorda (Goa) on October 30
after inclement weather due to deep depression forced the postponement of the
home match scheduled to be held in Chennai today.

Mr Savio Messias, GFA secretary, told The Navhind Times
telephonically that the AIFF had asked GFA to host the match on Tuesday at 3.30
p.m. and that the teams would be arriving tomorrow.

When asked if the Nehru stadium was now found fit to host the
match, since earlier it was declared unsuitable, Mr Messias declined to
comment, adding that the MUSS officials were kind enough to postpone the
football trials by a day in order to accomodate the prestigious match.

The international match comes to Goa almost by default after a gap
of two years when viewed against the background of the relations between two of
the key officials at Goa and India
levels.

The postponement of the match came after the referees examined the
playing condition following heavy rains in Chennai and match commissioner
Rendeni Gamini said: “As per FIFA rules the match had to be played the next day
and, if tomorrow also the weather does not permit, FIFA would decide whether it
should be postponed the next day or the venue has to be shifted.”

The GFA organising committee is expected to meet tomorrow to
decide about the organisation details and given the fact that India need a
clear cut 3-0 victory margin to qualify, football fans in Goa were expecting
that there would be free entry so that a packed stadium would root for India,
especially when viewed against the background that attendance has not been very
strong for football matches of late.
