Hello Sanny
Thanks for the Russian tourist thing, but do you or anyone know the precise
figures for ALL tourists visiting Goa for 2005, 2006 and the expected number
for 2007, the projected figures for 2008 and 2009? Please include other Indian
states tourists that come into Goa, if they are not resident, then they are
tourists (excluding the migration which we all know about & discussed ... they
are not tourists, they intend to stay)
Can Goa's infrastructure cope with the ever-demanding call on its services?
Of course there is the capacity to hold everyone in their hotels & guest
houses, etc but what actually happens once the tourist has eaten, pulled the
chain, drank & peed. What happens to the dirty dish water, what happens to the
contents of the toilet, the waste produced by the packaging of goods & the cost
to the environment, the sea as well as the land?
I ask this because the Mauritius goverment announced they are intending on
nearly DOUBLING the number of tourists visiting Mauritius over the next couple
of years, from 900,000 to 1,500,000. The population of Mauritius is 1,200,000
approx so you can imagine the need to cope with the ever-increasing and
ever-increasing need to cope with these extras, especially with regard to the
coral that surrounds the island, not to mention the destruction to the
coastline with all these new hotels and beaches which were once clean & bright,
now with discarded plastic bottles and paper & plastic bags, rubbish strewn
streets............

influx Moscow, Oct 30 (RIA Novosti) Russian airlines offering flights
to Goa will have to increase their capacities
dramatically this year to be able to handle the ever-growing tourist traffic.
This fall, 1,400-1,500 Russian visitors are expected to fly to Goa's resorts
every week, as compared with last year's
average of 800-900..............
