Dears, The elections to the South Goa Parliamentary seat saw what is perhaps the record for the lowest voter turn-out in Goa .... a below 35% pass marks! The Official report of the Electoral Office is that 34.75 percent of the electorate voted till the close of voting.
Madkai constituency of the Davlikar brothers recorded the lowest of 27% vote with 3 booths recording ZERO votes, in a rare display of village unity. Sanguem, a strong hold of the BJP after the Curchorem riots and the recent anti-mining agitations, recorded the highest voting of 50%. The voter turn out is higher in rural areas and low in urban areas. No confirmation of what happened to the urban "Fukat nagar" voters, the vote bank of the Congress in the South. Perhaps, they were the only urban votes! Both, Congress and BJP, are claiming victory. The EVMs may well prove to be a Pandora's Box on 03 November, 2007...... and rain curses in the state.
