Posting in Goaworld:
Christians in N-E states may lose minority status.

Comment:

This is yet another attempt by the government aided and propelled by extremist
elements from the majority community to marginalise the minorities and pare
down their rights which are enshrined in the Constitution. There have been
numerous attempts in the past to dilute Article 30 which guarantees the
minorities - religious and linguistic, certain rights to establish, run and
manage educational and other institutions. Once this article is diluted, the
government can interfere with all our institutions at will and run them to seed.

The proposed amendment is yet another pernicious attempt to change the
definition of a minority so that minorities wherever they are concentrated in
substantial numbers lose their special protection and get marginalised. And
wherever they are in insignificant numbers, they are marginalised anyway. And
in India where everything is caste and religion driven, one can just imagine
what can happen to those who are in a minority and do not have a voice or
special protection.

It is time for all minority groups to get together and protest. I am surprised
that this information has not been debated in minority circles / groups so far.
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty and also protection of one's rights.

Regards,

Marshall
