Dear All The common refrain nowadays is that Goa and Goanness is going to the dogs and that Goans and their rich traditions will become a minority in their own homeland. Most of us tend to agree with clucking sounds and do nothing about it.
Well one gentleman from Aldona - Francis Dias believes more in action and less talk and has resolved to keep alive our exotic culture with a small for step - by popularising the the Traditional Won Xith cuisine . To my little knowledge in the yesteryears when a person in the family was getting married , the family would invite the neighbours and village people to partake in a special meal called Won Xith which was eaten squatting on the floor. For obvious reasons it was also called BHUI( ground/earth) jevonn The menu I will mention later but the idea I believe was to invoke the good wishes and blessings of the people on the prospective couple . In other cases I am told it was also served to invoke the prayers on the deceased members of the family and called "Bhikareachem jevonn ". Whatever it may been the concept not doubt well meaning the food cooked is just fantastic , easily digestable and healthy. I have partaken of such a meal only twice in my life but I remember it very well. So come December 16th 2007, Francis Dias and his team of enthusiasts in collaboration with the Aldona Institute are organising a Won Xith Festival at the Institute premises from 12.00 - 2.30 p.m. Donation coupons at Rs.100/- each for adults and Rs.60/- for kids under 12 years will be available shortly The Menu includes 1..
