IIFI theatres, stages to be christened after Goan artists
Panaji (PTI): Goan films may not be premiered during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2007, but the organisers have decided to embellish the festival with a "Goa touch" to make up for the loss. "All the IFFI theatres and outdoor stages would be named after Goan artists who have contributed to Bollywood," Vishnu Wagh, Chairman, cultural committee, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) said. The tiny coastal state, which has constantly faced criticism for not having a film culture, has now resolved to showcase the achievements of legendary Goans in Bollywood. Towing the line, the inaugural stage of IFFI 2007 will be named after late Dattaram Wadkar, a musician who scored music for Hindi films like "Parvarish", he said. "Various events spanning across the state will have stages named after these personalities," Wagh said. Other noted Goan personalities, who will be remembered through this initiative at the IFFI are: Pandurang Naik (cinematographer), K Vaikunth (cinematographer), C Alvare (actor), Prem Kumar (actor), Minakshi Shirodkar (actress), Chris Perry (musician), N Datta (musician) and Bhanudas Divkar (editor). Besides, the beach and town screenings planned in ten different locations will exhibit Hindi films involving contributions by Goans. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/009200711051521.htm - Forwarded by: Sanny de Quepem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
