Starting at the crack of dawn on India's 58th Republic Day, 42 groups of Konknni singers [including Goa's famous Elvis Goes troupe] will attempt to break the world record in Non-stop singing [Nirontari gayan] billed as 'Konkani Nirantari' at Mangalore. Eric Ozario, who performed with his "Maand Sobann" group at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of TSKK at Porvorim on 29 March, 2007, and at Kala Academy, Panaji, for the "Tiatr Day" [ Watch the JoeGoaUK video of "Rosalin Mhojea Mogachea" on YouTube] in April, will be leading the effort from the front.
Comunidade Evangelica Luterana,of Sao Paulo, Brazil, currently holds the Guinness world record with 376 hours [15 days and 16 hours] of non-stop singing ..... and Maand Sobann is attempting to break that record! Those of us who are proud to belong to this wonderful Aparant of the Konkan Coast and doubly proud of our Mother Tongue, Konknni, will have reason to triple that joy with the new Guinness world record with 377 hours or more of Nirontori gayan. Elvis Goes is currently Goa's sole representative. Konknni is Goa's official language. Surely we can do better than sit back and listen! We could possibly support one or more of our Konknni hymn singing choirs to join them. there is already a group of nuns from Karnataka doing that. Money is not everything ...but it makes things a lot easier. Publicity, motivation, moral support, participation ...every act helps. Miguel Mandd Sobhann all set to break Guinness record MANGALORE: It's a mammoth effort aimed to slide into the Guinness Book of World Records. Mand Sobhann, an institute in the forefront of preservation, promotion and enrichment of Konkani language, has embarked upon an ambitious task of flying the Konkani flag world-wide. Nullifying the earlier record that was set in 2004, 1,200 Konkani singers will attempt to create a new record for the world's longest singing marathon by multiple singers. The epicentre for this gigantic venture will be Kalaangann in Mangalore. Under the banner 'Konkani Nirantari', Mandd Sobhann will attempt to earn a place for Konkani in the Guinness world records by beating the existing record of 376 hours, standing in the name of Comunidade Evangelica Luterana, Sao Paulo, Ulbra, Brazil. The 40-hour marathon singing project, staring from 6 am on January 26, 2008, to 10 pm on January 27, has received wide support.
