Dear Goanetters,

Tomorrow (Friday) evening, I shall be speaking at the Xavier s Historical Research Center in Porvorim about waste management in Goa. From a subject that I casually got interested in back in 1999, I've grown to work with this subject more and more, and something that once was a part time hobby has got me so interested that in 2004, I quit my job as an engineer to work with environmental issues full time. I've been spending most of my time working hands on with waste, working with data collection, experiments, implementation of best practices, and lots of discussions with others in the waste management scene both in Goa and elsewhere.

Waste management awareness in Goa is high. Papers carry related articles almost on a daily basis, but sadly, most of this is negative news and it's time that we look at the positives too, and the broad picture in Waste Management.

Waste Management is an issue that plagues the whole world, not just Goa & India. The interactive presentation & discussion titled "Waste Wise : Converting Problems to Solutions with Waste Management in Goa" will show you waste management problems that are affecting Goa, how bad it could get, and how easily we could solve this on our own with just a little effort. To understand various concepts, I will be using actual photographs of waste management in Goa as well as sample garbage props and handouts. Since all the solutions I talk about are low cost, low tech and local, implementation of the same is quick and easy. With systems already in place to reduce our waste to landfill sites by 85%, we can even start working towards the zero waste concept, which i shall talk about in the presentation. In some particular cases, the systems in use here work much better than in Europe or the west, and perhaps its time that they can look back at us for help soon!

See you tomorrow! The information you need to get there is mentioned below:
