The second issue of the Paulite is also in the pipeline.....Dennis I am appending a note from Dennis ... rene barreto [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ExStudents_StPauls_StJosephs_Belgaum/ ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo From: anthonysdennis@ yahoo.co. in Dear Paulites Friday, 28 October 2007 was a "red letter day" for some of us Paulites in Bombay who made a whole hearted effort to "connect" with the other Paulites, who are widely scattered all over the city of Bombay and its far flung suburbs. As the saying goes "rather light a candle instead of cursing the darkness" and so we did. We took the first step to meet up with the other Paulites and it was a spontaneous move. A direct fall out of the 150 Centenary celebration in December 2006 in Belgaum. Within a fortnight, with only a handful of us, we ran helter skelter and had posters in the parish churches of Bombay from Colaba to Andheri and with a flurry of repeated telepone calls we had atleast 40 Paulites on our list. Unfotunately, a few of the Paulites were leaving town and expressed their regret but have reassured us of their participation on their return. Despite the budgetry constraints we even had an advert in a weekly publication. The net result was heartwarming. The personal visits, the telephone calls and the subsequent reminders paid rich dividends. The Paulites were more than happy to learn that we would now meet under "an umbrella" - the Paulites . It was a wonderful moment, after decades, to see the old stalwarts of the 40s marching in into St Stanislaus's gate where we awaited their arrival. The bulk was provided by the 50s followed by the 60s and 70s and a few from the 80s. Within twenty minutes all were in and the buzz was intense what with each one animatedly recalling the old places in Belgaum, the old masters and the old tricks. These were the moments of nostalgia laden with happy memories. Ofcourse, there were many surprises in store for some as they were not told of the coming of some of their buddies. We then moved to the mini hall. The Introduction was conducted by Orlando Oliviera (1951) who has been working 'over drive' to get the first "Paulite" magazine out and we hope to make it a collectors item with memorabilia from 1856 to 2006. Should some of you would like to contribute an article or photographs please feel free to do so as we would love to have them. But please hurry up. The second issue of the Paulite is also in the pipeline. Then followed the hour when each one introduced himself and narrated his moves from Belgaum to Bombay, his initial endeavours, their academic pursuits and the final progressive climb up the corporate ladder. It was with a sense of pride that we shared their richly deserved Success. Amidst us there were the rankers - Vidyadhar Katre of the 1955 batch who also ranked 15th in the State and is a Professor of Mathematics. There was Satish Uberoi of the 1956 batch who surprisingly landed in the Services - the Army and retired as Colonel. Ajit Nimbalkar of the 1959 batch who did his IAS, then rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Govt of Maharashtra, then Special Advisor and is presently Chairman of the Water Resources Board, expressed his regret as he had already planned his visit to USA and left two days prior. The road to success is not easy - it has its share of toil and sweat, inspiration and determination. sacrifice and achievement. Lesllie Rebello is a classic example. Several stints in Bombay and elsewhere and an MBA from XLRI he has cut an unique niche for himself. He is now stationed in Bombay and heads his own Consultancy Firm. Xavier Labour Relations Institute located in Jamshedpur is one of the foremost educational institute in India, run by the Jesuits. Medio Bhadha of the 1956 batch (yes he belongs to my batch) when young is supposed to have broken his arm on falling from a bed. Yet, along with the other daredevil, the late Joe DSilva (1954) joined the Services. It was Medio who with his (now famous) aerobatic dives during the assembly time, at St Paul's that thrilled the young Paulites, in no small measure, rose to be a Commodore (Navy) and is now retired. He once commanded the Dabolim Naval base in Goa. Now let me take a breath and leave some of the success stories for later. >From all that was said, one factor emerged loud and clear that the boys who struggled and succeeded would now like to give a helping hand to our children, and possibly to our relations too. That is a noble trait. Long Live St Paul's. The forthcoming issue of the Paulite and the subsequent ones and the Directory of the Paulites will entail certains costs and we would appreciate your contribution as you deem fit. In today's age of technological advancements TO CONNECT is the buzz word - be they men or machines and happily for us the email and the cell have come to stay. It will be our endeavour to keep the Directory au courant ie updated. Now that the initial inertia is overcome we trust the momentum generated by this meet will help us stay connected and result in greater camaraderie. Our earnest request to those of you who are out of Bombay and abroad is to please email us the names and the address or the telepnoe number of the Paulites in Bombay so that we may connect with them and invite them for our functions. Sincerely Anthony S Dennis (1956) 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Get easy, one-click access to your favorites.
