You get Tulsi in Mauritius too, mostly in front of their "temples" for the 
deities. Some houses have Durga, others with Ganesh, Shiva and so on.......... 
etc but all the Hindu deities' houses appear to have Tulsi & other shrubs, but 
the Tulsi for its many beneficial properties as well. I was walking around a 
seaside town in Mauritius, and the smelll was so very nice. If you pick a leaf 
and crush it, the aroma is wonderful. And of course all the other benefits, 
both physical & spiritual are there.

So originally from the Himalayas .......... to all over the world.

It's believed that tulsi was originally a mighty tree found only in
the Himalayas, in Kailas to be precise, and it was brought to the
plains as a bonsai and turned into a shrub.RKN
