This is something our worthy judiciary should be doing "suo moto" of their own
accord. They can see the mess. But since they have other priorities there is
probably no option to the PIL. Sincerely hope Ponjecars have the desire to
support it.
India according to Goldman Sachs etc should become a developed country by
2050 - along the way the civic standards improvement graph should mirror the
GDP one.
One factor holding us back has probably been the lack of adequate tax
collections. Till a couple of years ago India's total tax revenues amounted to
15% of GDP, compared to say Canada and Australia where it is 50% of GDP (Less
said about USA's collapsing bridges the better). The good news over the last 3
years has been the 50% annualised growth in tax revenues. The government
therefor has more funds to deploy. So, as far as infrastructure and civic
hygiene standards go we should get "developed status" sooner or later. Bombay's
domestic airport has set the gold standard.
In the meantime let all Civic Departments nationwide publicise MG's slogan
"CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS"......and don't forget to pay your taxes.
