<Keep in mind that IFFI is pronounced one letter at a time (Aie Aef AefAie)
and not 'iffy' as some newbie politicians, officials andprotestors do on
TV.> [Cecil Pinto]

The "phonetic" system, a la the author's take-off on "YMCA" is one model of
jingle making. The other one is purely alphabetical. In American colleges
the cheerleaders yell: "Give me an I"; "..an F"; ".."another F"; ".. an I"!
Then they ask "What does it spell?" It would have to be IFFI, pronounced
"iffy", right? To paraphrase the old saying, "IFFI by any name would still
be iffy".

This is mainly because from the beginning IFFI was pushed through in a
jiffy. The author's phrase is "railroaded". The attempt to reduce success or
failure to a jingle is in the direction of making it more of a jiffy. Just
imagine: A million Goans invoking an incantation in unison might make all
the difference to the outcome of a complex if rather banal annual exercise
in event management. At least that is the hope. Its a good excuse to avoid
careful thought and painful action all the year round, from one year to the
next.
