The Victorian Government (Australia) has recognised more than 200
individuals and organisations for their outstanding service to the State's
multicultural community.
Premier John Brumby, who presented the Victorian Awards for Excellence in
Multicultural Affairs at Government House tonight, said it was important to
recognise, celebrate and encourage the many wonderful contributions to
multicultural Victoria.
Among those honored was Goanetter, Oscar Carmino Lobo, of Melbourne,
Australia, who received the Community Leadership award.
"Oscar Carmino Lobo has organised extremely successful cultural events that
brought together the Goan community, mainstream Australians and other
communities. They have become 'show pieces' of integration where people
from various communities interact in the most harmonious manner in social
activities of singing, dancing and dining. This has been achieved wholly
due to Oscar's total commitment to strengthen multiculturalism. Oscar
believes that success in multiculturalism will be the major ingredient for a
great Australian family"
