Alemao supporters invade stage
Tiatr disrupted for 45 minutes, eggs flung at actor

MARGAO, NOV 27 - Noted Konkani stage artist, William de Curtorim's thriller
"Avoin Kelem Pap, Putan Dili Zap" staged at the Gomant Vidya Niketan on
Tuesday evening gave some anxious moments for the audience after PWD
Minister, Churchill Alemao's men invaded the stage to protest against a song
directed against the Save Goa Front Supremo.

The auditorium witnessed a furore after tiatr was disrupted for around 45
minutes as Alemao's supporters vehemently objected to the tiatrist singing a
song "Save Goa sondun, Congressank gelo".

As if everything was pre-planned, Churchill's men, numbering around 10-12,
flung eggs on the stage when William sang the song.

To avoid the ire of the protestors, William ran for cover on the top floor,
even as Margao police personnel entered inside to avoid any untoward
incident and bring the situation under control.

The tiatrist later made his presence on the stage following a strong demand
from the audience, who demanded that William sing the same song once again,
which he obliged, but without taking the name of Alemao.

William later told newsmen that the attempt made by Alemao's supporters to
disrupt his tiatr clearly amounts to violation of his fundamental right of
speech and expression.

"I had composed the song based on media reports about the plans Alemao had
to quit the SGF to join the Congress. Why I am being targetted now", he
wondered.

William, who had in the past earned the ire of politicians for his political
songs, asserted that he would not be cowed down by such incidents and would
continue to expose the politicians for their misdeeds.

Churchill, however, feigned ignorance about the incident. "I am unaware
whether my supporters were involved in any such incident".
