I never met this Portuguese educated Goan genius in person but we connected via
email.

Jorge loved Goa and especially Konkani and I admired Jorge and Livia especially
because of their closeness to our mother-tongue.

Jorge was a very down-to-earth kind of person. He once took offence to my
saluting him as "Senhor" Jorge in one of my emails. He shot back saying,
"Silviano, please don't call me "Senhor". I apologized. But I respected him a
lot for not being shameful of Konkani as most of his contemporaries were in
Panjim of that time. Today every Senior Catholic Goan in Panjim and other
cities, claims they are "Niz Goenkar" and "Konkaniwadi", when, actually they
never ever spoke a word of Konkani at home or elsewhere. During the Portuguese
time, it was all Portuguese in Panjim and now it is mostly Hindi or Marathi
there.
Jorge was always proud of Konkani like that other Goan Konkani stalwart of that
time - Antonio Morais from Veroda Cuncolim.
Jorge, I wish you well on your journey! We will meet someday in that real Casa
de Goa and converse in Konkani forever!
My condolences to Livia in your sorrowful solitude!
Jorge, Thanks for your work on this Earth!

Adeus!

Silviano
