Goanet mourns the passing of Jorge de Abreu Noronha in Portugal - Nov 27/07

It was indeed a shock to learn of the sudden demise of my good friend Jorge.
Possibly, among all current GOANETTERS I had the good fortune of knowing him
from very early age, both as a Mapxencar and good family friend.
Jorge and I were together in the Minor Seminary at Mapuca (AULAS FILIAIS) in
1940/4l after which I moved to Rachol whither he followed the next year, when I
left for good. He was brilliant in his class competing strongly with another
brilliant student, Ilidio Cabral Sa, brother of Mario Cabral Sa. Due to their
excellence in studies and other qualities, both of them were selected to pursue
Philosophy at the Seminary in KANDY (Ceylon then, SriLanka now) considered
pre-emnent then because of its stature as a Papal Seminary. Unfortunately
Ilidio died early as a student and later, Jorge left for other pastures.
Jorge, however, continued his superb career as a scholar of first magnitude.
We lost touch later because of my wanderings but he was gracious enough to
contact me immediately
when my post on 'MAPUCA' appeared in GOANET, reliving the good old days and
remembering many of the persons mentioned in the post, some of whom his
relatives.
This has been a particularly painful year for the ABREU NORONHA family:
another of JORGE's brother died earlier this year in India, a nephew died in
the USA and of course, Livia's brother died some months back too.
So we need to send a very big "Abraco" of condolence to Livia and
family(Maria Imelda,
Mauricio, Fernando and the nun (Carmelite, whose religious name escapes me
just now).
Our prayers are for the repose of Jorge's soul and for fortitude to his
family in this great loss.
