The jatra and festa season has started. I dropped by today (Sun, Dec 2,
2007) at the jatra of Goddess Navadurga in Madkai. Our jatras and festas
are quintessential Goan experiences. I remember the verve of the poorest
villagers in the old days for whom this was among the most joyous days of
the year. We all have our individual tales of the jatras (or festas) of our
young days. These occasions were great levelers for here the rich & poor,
the young & old, all came together and celebrated communally.
