EIDA launches website to help fill ID card forms
ABU DHABI Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) yesterday launched a new
website where people can register themselves on-line, and then take a copy of
the form to the registration centre along with other necessary documents to
complete the procedures for getting ID cards. The website includes
comprehensive information on the population register and ID card programme as
well as various services provided by EIDA and has detailed information on the
registration procedures and has been launched to enhance awareness on the
population register and the ID Card Programme. The new website has been
upgraded to become a comprehensive gate for e-services. The importance of the
website lies in that its the first station in the registration process to
obtain the ID card. The authoritys website is www.emiratesid.ae, which is
available in both Arabic and English languages.
The customer service toll free number is 600523432.
The electronic identity card is one of the most important
e-Government objectives the United Arab Emirates is attempting to achieve in
order to simplify the administrative procedures as well as ease and upgrade the
governmental services in line with the government's expectations aiming at
promoting the customers service and governmental performance.
Although the new Identity Card does not differ from the old one in respect of
being an identification document used by individuals to prove their identity
upon request of any governmental service, however it is completely different
for it is a smart card securing the identity verification and availing the
highest security levels using sophisticated digital specifications.
Furthermore, the new card may also be used in electronic dealings through the
internet network with full privacy and secrecy. Such card may, in the future,
replace many other identification cards making it a smart multiuse card.
Who is the beneficiary from the Identity Card?
As per the law of the Population Registry and the Identity Card Program, all
nationals and legal residents of the UAE whose age above 15 are compelled to
obtain the Identity Card. The law of the Population Registry Identity Card
Program stipulates that it is required for all Government, Semi- Government and
private authorities to adopt the new ID cards being an approved and unified
identification document used to identify and prove the individuals identity in
all their governmental and non-governmental transactions. Furthermore, the law
stipulates that a specific time was given to obtain the new ID cards otherwise
no services will be rendered for those who do not obtain the Identity Card
thereafter.
In its recent session held in September 2007, the Cabinet issued a resolution
which stipulated that all the government and non-government authorities are
obliged to adopt the Identity Card in verifying the identity of all its
holders, in addition to extending the prohibition period (set forth in the law
of the Population Registry and the Identity Card Program) detailed as follows:
A. For UAE nationals: until 31/12/2008, it is prohibited to accept,
recruit or keep any UAE national, being an employee, recruit, laborer, student
or in any other capacity, unless he holds the Identity Card.
B. For residents: to 31/12/2010 , it is prohibited to accept, recruit or keep
any UAE resident, being an employee, recruit, laborer, student or in any other
capacity, unless he holds the Identity Card.
