Others say that the division is actually betwen earlier and later settlers. The truth I'm afraid is lost somewhere in between. Two people I can think of qualified to answer your question are: 1) Rochelle Pinto. A PhD holding Aldonkar who has studied the matter 2) Alito Sequeira, professor from Goa University Socilogy Department. An expert on Goan caste matters. I have c.c.ed them both.
