GMAS (Goa's Movement Against SEZs) SEZ Hatao Yatra swept through villages in
Tiswadi and Ponda today (Thurs, Dec 13, 2007).
I joined the party in the evening at Savoi-Verem where the jatra at the
Ananta temple was in full flower. After nibbling at khaajem and revdyo I
called on Anant-bab. Here, an exquisite relief sculpture of Anantashayana
(reclining Vishnu), dating back to at least the Vijayanagara period (14th
C), forms the central item of worship -

The coloured paste smeared on the tablet comes from the gandha-pooja
rituals.
The GMAS chariot halted for a brief call to the people of Savoi-Verem -

The caravan then rolled towards Keri. At the site of the proposed Meditab
SEZ, there was a posse of security guards. These urchins, plucked from
Bihar, UP, MP & Jharkhand, are the latest menace to infect Goa -

It was now close to sundown and I stayed back near the SEZ site to observe
the dhangars who were busy shepherding their goats back to home base -

Right opposite the SEZ site across the road is a settlement of dhangars, an

By the time I got to the Keri village square near the Vetal temple, the GMAS
gathering had dispersed and the party was en route to Ponda for the public
meeting. I was given to understand that Dr. Vedesh Jalmi, Sarpanch of Keri,
shared the platform with GMAS.
Tomorrow (Dec 14) the SVM has called a big rally at Lohia Maidan in Margao.
